Statement of Purpose

ICP is a promising field with the development of economic globalization.A desire to get more academic knowledge and an enthusiasm to explore the current problems of policy faced by the society, motivated me to pursue graduate degree in International Commerce and Policy. I believe that my solid education background and perseverance could help me become a successful graduate student in ICP filed.

I am really interested in economic since I am young and I pay a lot of attention to a variety of economic issue. When I was in high school, I watched CCTV Financial Channel after class every day which is the official channel to report economic issue. It helped me get a lot of current economic information at that time and gave me an initial comprehension of economy and policy that the policy could solve the economic problem. And then, I made the first biggest decision that choosing International trade as my undergraduate major which set the path for my future study and career.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree at Hunan International Economics University which is the biggest private university in China. The study experience at university inspire me to pursue ICP program. I got the Scholarship when I was a junior student. I also got the title of the outstanding graduates of Hunan province. It marked a successful ending of my college life. As a student majoring in International Trade have to study a series of courses including Micro-economic, Macro-economic, Political economics, Econometrics, International trade, International Trade affairs, etc. it has offered me a good theoretical foundation for future study. I am very interested in Regional Economics and Trade Policy which is study on the relationship between regional economic development and regional coordination. I wrote two academic article about this topic during undergraduate study. The first is the Influence of the Establishment of the European Union on the Development of European. And I found that the essence of European Union is economic integration, politics integration and culture integration. Suitable trade policy Promotes the economic development and strengthen the currency. What is more, because of the currency unification, inspire the consumption and industrial communication. The second is the influence of The establishment of the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan City Group on export trade of Hunan province. And I found that the combination of countries can optimize allocation of resources and promote the export.

During the last year of college, I was able to obtain an internship with Finance Bureau of Zhuzhou City. I learn a lot about how the policy formed. The process of the formation of a policy is extremal complex which including: analyzing the current situation, discussion by whole sector, formulating policy and modifying. Sometimes, the policy makers should adjust the policy as soon as possible when some economic issue happen. It requires the policy makers have strong professional knowledge and flexibility in the use of policy. The formation of the policy should undergo a series of discussion in the team. Only all the members work together could find the most optimal solution. I realize how important of the policy to the economic development in the region and the responsibility of the policy makers. The experience of internship inspired me continue study on policy in the future.

Recently, I am in pathway program.  I very appreciate all the knowledge that I have learned.in PROV class, I did my first e-portfolio, I learned how to structure, how to enrich the content, how to show the best side of myself. It is an important skill that I can use in the future.in EAP class, I wrote a literature review at the end of this semester. And my topic is addressing situation of income inequality in China and evaluating current policy. I think what I learned from pathway can help me becoming a successful graduate student.

In the future, I want to return to China after graduation to seek a position about international trade and help the company reduce the trade cost and get more benefit in the perspective of policy. I strongly believed that I could utilize the what I am learned to solve the demanding problems faced in the society and giving something back to the society. This is the final object that I want to pursue graduate study.
